The Green Challenge

P3250064, originally uploaded by paper-flower-girl.

Janick from http://fonetik.wordpress.com/ challenged me to do the Green Challenge, so I have to write a bit about what I am doing to introduce environmental sustainability into my daily life!

1. I use a whashing machine with an 'economy' option, which uses less water and I hang dry my laundry.

2. I do not own a car and I ride/walk more than drive. For longer distances I use public traffic.

3. I don't buy disposable plates/utensils and I re-use plastic water bottles. I also keep plastic and cotton bags and take them with me to go shopping, instead of taking extra plastic bags that I don't need.

4. I eat only free range, sustainable animal products and food from organic agriculture and fair trade.

5. I own some second-hand / re-use clothing, and only buy clothes that are made from biodegradable fabrics. I try to buy as much of my basics as possible in organic fabrics.

6. Most of my batteries are rechargable

7. I use mostly all-natural, biodegradable cleaning products and I do not use any chemicals in my yard.

8. I use mostly recycled paper products, even my toilet is made from 100% recycled paper. I also recycle paper for wrapping gifts, for making collages and notebooks/sketchbooks.

9. We sort our garbage: paper, vegetable and plant remains, plastic and cans all go in different containers and are collected seperatly.

10. I use a lot of recycled and repurposed, vintage, second hand and found objects in my jewelry and art.

I'm tagging Ruth Singer from Mantua Maker, Vleervlinder, Renate from Kreativlink, and Petronella from Kraplap.

In progress...

In progress..., originally uploaded by paper-flower-girl.

I'm loving red, grey and white at the moment. I'm working on some pieces that combine these three colours.

This post is also a little test to see how the "blog this" function at Flickr works!

Toadstools

I'm in the mood to try new things.
Last week I bought myself some fabric markers. Here is the work in progress:

A new fascination...

Recently I love making small collections. Random pieces put together. Sorted out by colour. Assembled by theme. Things I find outside. Things I have had for years. New combinations. Memories and whimsy. Old and new. Inspiration.

Thirty days of crafting 365

A while ago, Bugsandfishes started the Crafting 365 project on flickr. The challenge is to create something every day. A great idea, I thought.

Now, a bit more than a month later, I decided that one month of Crafting 365 is enough for me at the moment.

On the photo's you can see some of the results of my 30 days of Crafting 365.

I still love the idea, and I loved to be part of it, but at the moment I don't seem to be able to create something every day. Some days I make several things, other days I have to focus on other tasks, like cleaning + studying + taking classes + doing paper work + shopping + cooking + travelling to Utrecht ... And sometimes I just want to take some time for myself, to watch a movie while eating salted pistaccio's and drinking a glass of my favorit sweet red wine. I'm sure you all know precicely what I'm talking about!

I'm very sad my Saturday night friend Jack Frost (from A touch of Frost, BBC series) has left me. Last Saturday's episode was the last one. I read this year or next year 2 more episodes will be produced, but after that my hero will be gone forever. *Sobbs*
SO, I have finally publicly admitted that I'm totally addicted to British detective series. I'll have to find a new series soon, or you will find me put away in some madhouse soon enough! If you have any suggestions, feel free to leave a comment :-)
